The film is considered to be an Indian version of the Hollywood films "Love Story" and "Casablanca", with a song-and-dance sequence reminiscent of musicals. The film tells the story of Simran Singh (Sonam Kapoor), who with her MBA degree arrives in New York City to take up a position as an executive secretary-cum-assistant for Raj Khera (Akshaye Khanna). Despite being wealthy, successful, and married into a prestigious family, Simran is looking for true love. She finds that love in Jack Qiwu Zhang (Chinese actor Wallace Huo), who is struggling to start up his own restaurant. When Raj finds out about Simran's feelings for Jack, he pairs him with a Chinese colleague of his, Beena (Bai Ling), to keep them apart. Simran is aghast at the idea of being set up with a stranger and she quits her job. Jack is unable to find a suitable Indian restaurant location in New York City and decides to open his restaurant in London. In London, however, he discovers that it isn't easy to start up a business from scratch and especially not from China. Meanwhile, Simran finds out that Raj is having an affair with Beena and she confronts him. She also finds out that he has been paying off Jack's loans and expenses so that Jack can keep his restaurant afloat. After hearing this, Simran reunites with Jack and they kiss in front of Raj and Beena. At the end of the movie, we see that they've moved to London and opened a Shanghai-style dumpling restaurant: "The Dumpling King." We see them serving customers. The film was later dubbed into Tamil. It was also released in Sri Lanka under the name "Hate Story". On 25 June 2004, "I Hate Luv Storys" opened to mostly negative reviews. The film was criticised for its weak script and lack of direction. Following the film's release, most critics gave "I Hate Luv Storys" a poor rating of 1 out of 5 stars.The film however managed to earn about Rs 12.5–13 million on its opening day and went on to earn Rs 50 million in India. The satellite rights were sold for Rs 20 million and the music rights for Re 1 per disc, thus bringing down the director's share to Rs 10 million. cfa1e77820
